Earlier this year, my team and I embarked on a values discovery process. It was a great experience for all of us, one that was driven by a thought-provoking question: What does it look like when Neighborhood House is operating at its natural best?
More than anything, we wanted the values we identified to be authentic — a genuine expression of what's important to us. Our goal was to capture the beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that shape how we show up as an organization.
We've all seen corporate values that are little more than wall art — pretty words that never translate into action. Our goal was different. We wanted principles that would actively influence how we carried out our mission.
After two months of discussion and feedback, we emerged with five core values. If you want to know the heartbeat of Neighborhood House, this is where it beats the strongest.
But what do these values mean in practice — in the work we do every single day?
We recently published a blog post that pulls back the curtain. In it, we explore what each value means to us and, more importantly, how they're guiding our efforts to provide transformational programs that lead to extraordinary outcomes.
Today, I hope you'll take a few minutes to read more about our values. They mean a lot to us, and I think you'll see why.
