Our People, Our Strength: Cynthia Williams

More than three decades. That's how long Cynthia Williams has been showing up for the youth of Neighborhood House — not just as our Youth Program Coordinator, but as a steady source of compassion and wise counsel.
"After 31 years, what I love most about my job is the opportunity to serve and inspire young people," Cynthia says. "The greatest joy for me is watching the youth grow, learn, and succeed."
For Cynthia, the real wins are the moments of connection and growth that happen behind the scenes. Sometimes it's a child's smile. Sometimes it's watching them believe in themselves for the first time. And sometimes it's years later, when a former student comes back just to say thank you.
Building relationships with kids and their families is what it’s all about for her. “I have been blessed to see so many children become confident young adults, and knowing that I had a part in encouraging them means everything to me."
Cynthia brings more than professionalism and dedication to her job at Neighborhood House. She brings heart, tenacity, and an unshakeable belief in the power of teamwork — qualities she honed over five years playing semi-pro football for the Delaware Griffins. Yes, you read that right. This southern girl with "a lot of southern ways" suited up and held her own on the gridiron.
That same determination shows up in everything she does. For over 30 years, she played competitive softball, even starting her own team at one point, The Delaware Divas. These days, she's retired from the diamond and has turned her energy toward coaching her grandson, helping him become a better baseball player and passing down what she knows about the sport.
When she's not at Neighborhood House, you'll find Cynthia on the road with her daughters and grandsons — exploring new places, making memories, and strengthening the bonds that matter most.
"Neighborhood House is more than a job to me," Cynthia says. "It is family, purpose, and a place where I have been able to share love, guidance, and hope.”
Cynthia, if our youth could speak as one voice, they'd say: "Thank you for seeing us, believing in us, and never giving up on us." Thirty-one years is a long time, and the example you've set is extraordinary. We're blessed to have you at Neighborhood House!
At Neighborhood House, our greatest strength has always been our people. This series highlights the staff members who bring heart, dedication, and purpose to their work every day. Their stories remind us that behind every meal served, every family helped, and every life changed, there's someone who genuinely cares.
