Sometimes the most beautiful stories start with an unexpected turn.
Kelly Lacy was job-searching when she noticed a "beautiful new building" and pulled over to ask about it. The person she spoke with was Wayne Brown, who happened to be Neighborhood House's executive director at the time.
Two weeks later, Kelly came back for an interview for a receptionist position. Before getting out of her car, she prayed for the opportunity and made a promise to be faithful and dedicated for one year while continuing her job search.
Well, Kelly's one-year commitment turned into something much more enduring. On July 26th, she'll celebrate 32 years at Neighborhood House. As our Director of Family Services and Homelessness Prevention, she’s a pillar of wisdom, care, and empowerment.
"I enjoy what I do, supporting families and individuals during difficult times and directing them to programs to assist them to become more independent and stable," Kelly says. And that heart for serving others has touched countless lives over three-plus decades.
When she's not at work, Kelly treasures time with her family — especially her daughter and three grandsons who affectionately call her "G-Mom." You'll often find her laughing, singing, and dancing with the people she loves most.
Back in 1993, Kelly thought she was just asking about a building. Instead, she found her life's work. Today, we can't imagine Neighborhood House without her.
Kelly, thank you for 32 years of faithfulness, dedication, and service. Our community is stronger because of you!
At Neighborhood House, our greatest strength has always been our people. This series highlights the staff members who bring heart, dedication, and purpose to their work every day. Their stories remind us that behind every meal served, every family helped, and every life changed, there's someone who genuinely cares.
