In her home library, Beverly Beckles has a secret weapon: hundreds of personal development books.
"Educational books hold so much power," she says. "Even if I can't read them all, I love being around them so I can draw from their amazing energy."
That energy? It's exactly what she brings to her work with young people every single day.
This December, Beverly will celebrate her 4th anniversary as our Youth Development Director. In that time, she's become a champion of what she calls "life mastery skills" — helping students develop not just academically, but socially and emotionally too.
"I love being able to positively influence the character development of my students," she explains. "I'm grateful to invest in their future by providing opportunities for exposure to information and places they may not otherwise access."
For Beverly, the real reward comes in those moments when she sees measurable growth — or even just has "a strong sense that our program is making a meaningful difference."
Outside of work, Beverly lives by a simple but powerful principle: "love God completely, and love humanity unconditionally." That calling drives her extensive ministry work and her leadership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Top Ladies of Distinction. In fact, she recently led the charge to establish Delaware's very first Top Teens of America, Inc. chapter this past February.
From her library of life-changing books to her commitment to developing young leaders, Beverly embodies the idea that investing in people — especially young people — creates ripple effects that last for generations.
Beverly, thank you for the wisdom, energy, and heart you bring to our Youth Development Program. Our students and staff are reaching higher because of your commitment to their growth!
At Neighborhood House, our greatest strength has always been our people. This series highlights the staff members who bring heart, dedication, and purpose to their work every day. Their stories remind us that behind every meal served, every family helped, and every life changed, there's someone who genuinely cares.
