Meet Becky Haas, or as she's affectionately known around here, "Boomerang."
Becky first joined Neighborhood House in 2015, just after Alison Windle became our Executive Director. "What a crazy time that was!" she says, laughing about learning nonprofit work through on-the-job training and lessons learned "the hard way." She worked her way up to Business Manager and helped us get through the chaos of COVID.
In 2021, Becky decided to try something new and left for what she hoped would be "greener pastures." But by late 2023, she was back — this time as a Family Services Coordinator in our Middletown office, earning her the nickname "Boomerang."
What brought her back? "Since joining Neighborhood House, I have been in awe of the longevity of the agency and all those who put their hearts and souls into the people we serve," Becky explains. She's witnessed firsthand how employees stay 10, 20, even 30-plus years because the work truly matters.
"It is clear from the tears that are shed by those we serve, that we are saving lives and the work that we do is meaningful and necessary."
When she's not helping our clients navigate the challenges they're facing, you'll find Becky in her garden (despite being "stupid allergic to poison ivy"), experimenting in the kitchen, or enjoying time with her husband Rob, their two cats Skittle and Fuff, and their eight grandkids who range in age from 2 to 22.
Becky, we're so glad you boomeranged back to where you belong — with us! We couldn't imagine our team without you!
At Neighborhood House, our greatest strength has always been our people. This series highlights the staff members who bring heart, dedication, and purpose to their work every day. Their stories remind us that behind every meal served, every family helped, and every life changed, there's someone who genuinely cares.
