Thank You for Being There Through Every Season

For nearly three decades, Neighborhood House has served the Middletown area through every phase of its transformation. We've watched farmland become neighborhoods and a small town become one of Delaware's fastest-growing communities. But alongside the new developments and expanding population, we're seeing more of our neighbors struggling with the basics: food, rent, utilities.

The numbers from our Middletown Family Services team tell part of the story. In just the first seven months of 2025, we've served 488 clients from our North Broad Street location. The need has nearly doubled since the start of the year — from 61 clients in January to 113 in July. Behind each number is a neighbor with a name and a story — someone stretching to make ends meet, but still coming up short.

In an area where the median family income has climbed to $119,400, 98% of those we serve are trying to make it on less than $36,000 annually. They're the certified nursing assistant who cares for residents at the local senior center. The veteran stocking shelves at the grocery store. The retired cafeteria worker whose fixed income hasn't kept pace with rising healthcare costs. The single parent with two jobs trying to keep a roof over their children's heads.

These neighbors aren't asking for much — just a little help when the burden becomes too heavy to carry alone. So far this year, we've distributed 2,840 bags of food and provided $50,968 in total assistance. This support means medications don't go unfilled, families stay housed, and hard-working people can keep contributing to the community they love — without sacrificing their own basic needs.

Since 1997, Neighborhood House has been here for Middletown. But we're only able to be here because of the generous support of people like you. To everyone who has helped us help others, thank you for ensuring that in our growing, changing community, no neighbor gets left behind.
