Some Good News from Middletown

There's a verse in the Bible I come back to often: "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9).
This week, that verse came to mind again as I looked at what our Middletown team was able to accomplish last year.
In 2025, they served nearly a thousand of our M.O.T. area neighbors — 969 to be exact. They gave out more than 5,000 bags of food and made sure 185 families had gifts under their Christmas trees. And when dozens more found themselves falling behind on rent or utilities, our team stepped in to help.
Middletown is growing. There’s new construction everywhere you look. But behind the growth, there are still plenty of people struggling to make ends meet. That’s why we’re there. Our staff and volunteers serve tirelessly because they believe that good things happen when we look out for each other — that compassion has a way of making things better, especially when life feels unrelenting.
And with that kind of effort, the harvest isn’t far behind. We get glimpses of it every day. When a parent’s shoulders drop because their heat is back on. When a senior realizes they don’t have to choose between groceries and rent. When someone between jobs gets a little breathing room. It’s amazing to witness, and even more amazing to be a part of.
But the real reason these stats are so significant is because of the story they tell. This is about more than what we accomplished in Middletown last year. It’s about the legacy of service we’ve been able to carry forward for decades, through good times and bad.
Since 1927, Neighborhood House has been a hub of hope and empowerment — a place where families find the support they need and the dignity they deserve. Numbers matter, but only because people matter infinitely more. They’re the reason we don’t grow weary, and why giving up has never been an option.
Thank you for being on this journey with us.
