Fifteen years ago, John Reed nearly lost his home to foreclosure.
"My wife and I didn't have a HUD-certified housing counselor to guide us," John recalls. "We ended up making some tough and unnecessary decisions simply because we didn't have the right information."
That painful experience changed everything for him. Today, as Neighborhood House's Director of Comprehensive Housing Counseling, John makes sure families can easily access the resources and guidance he would have benefited from.
"For decades, Neighborhood House has been committed to supporting families through comprehensive housing counseling, homeownership preparation, and foreclosure prevention," John explains. "Hundreds of families have gained the knowledge, confidence, and resources they needed to buy a home or save the one they're in — and I'm grateful to be part of that mission."
The core of John’s work comes down to one thing: restoring hope. ”I love showing people that even with limited means there are real paths forward!" For him, it’s all about helping families understand their options, strengthen their financial footing, and find strategic solutions to challenges that may seem insurmountable.
John knows firsthand what it's like to feel overwhelmed by housing uncertainty. And it’s that lived experience that fuels his passion to help others — combining professional expertise with a genuine understanding of what people are going through.
When he's not helping families secure their housing futures, you'll find John running the trails in Brandywine Park, his favorite place to reset and recharge.
John, thank you for turning your own challenge into a calling that changes lives. Whether you're on the trails or in the office, you never stop moving forward — and you help your clients do the same. Thank you for everything you do at Neighborhood House!
