We are excited about this week for a number of reasons:
We get to shake off winter. (Like, GO AWAY WINTER! It's over! We're done with you, already!)
May the 4 Be With You. (If you don't understand this, we can't be friends!)
Cinco de Mayo. (Taco Tuesday AND Wednesday?! Does life get any better?!)
Mother's Day. (Hey Mom! :D )
Teacher AND Nurses Appreciation Week. (You didn't know? Well, keep reading! We'll fill you in!)
Teachers Appreciation Week is May 3rd - May 7th, with Teachers Appreciation Day falling on Tuesday, May 4th. At Neighborhood House, we will be wearing red to show appreciation for Educators, including our ELC and Youth Department Staff who have gone above and beyond this past year to make sure the kids in our programs didn't fall behind developmentally or academically during the pandemic. Teachers always come out of their own pockets to provide addition supplies for the classroom. This year, they had to shift quickly (and frequently) and learn how to teach and connect with their students at a distance.
Dear Educators, You did great! We see you and appreciate your hard work and dedication! Keep up the good work!
Nurses Appreciation Week is May 6th - 12th. When we say 'Nurses,' we mean CNAs, RNs, LPNs, APRNs, and any type of nursing assistants that may fall in between! On a "normal" day the work is hard and non-stop. COVID doubled the load, but Nurses and other medical professionals didn't blink. They put on their capes, surgical gloves, masks and went in - HARDER. So, on May 6th, wear blue in honor of these front-line workers. If you spot them in line at the coffee shop, maybe pay for their coffee or something. They work hard to keep us alive!
Dear Nurses and Other Medical Workers, Do we thank you enough? Thank you for all you do! (Fist bump!)
Mother's Day is on Sunday, May 8th. Please don't make me spell this out for you! Get the woman who gave you life a gift TODAY! (Or if Mother is no longer with you (may she rest in peace) honor the closest mother-figure in your life!)
