An Important Update About Our Middletown Closure

After careful consideration, the Neighborhood House Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to consolidate our operations at our community center in Wilmington’s Southbridge neighborhood. This means closing our satellite office in Middletown, where we have served families since 1992.
This was not a reactive decision. It was a deliberate one, made with the long-term health of the organization in mind.
Why We Are Making This Change
After nearly a century of service, we know that the strength of Neighborhood House lies in the depth of what we do, not the breadth of where we do it. Consolidating our work in Southbridge allows us to concentrate our resources, energy, and capacity where they can have the greatest impact. It also aligns with the strategic plan adopted by our Board last summer.
We are also being honest with ourselves about the environment we are operating in. Funding is more competitive. Costs are rising. Government support is less certain than it once was. The responsible path forward is to operate from a position of focus and financial discipline, while continuing to build long-term capacity for the work ahead.
What This Means for the M.OT. Community
We recognize that this news will be difficult to receive, especially for those who have come to know and rely on our Middletown office over the past three-plus decades. The relationships we have built in M.O.T., and the trust that families placed in us there, are not something we take lightly. This decision reflects the realities facing our organization, nothing more.
The Middletown office will officially close on Friday, May 29. Our team will work with current Middletown clients to ensure continuity of care wherever possible. Clients with questions about their services or next steps can email Kelly Lacy at klacy@neighborhoodhse.org. The relationships we built in Middletown matter. To the best of our ability, we will honor those relationships as we wind down our operations.
Thank You for Standing with Us
Neighborhood House has served the Southbridge community for 99 years. Our Board is united in its commitment to ensuring we are here for the next 99. We are grateful to everyone who has stood with us — in Wilmington, in Middletown, and beyond — and we look forward to continuing this work together.
