Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field; or associate’s degree and two years’ work experience; or three years of work experience as a housing counselor. HUD CERTIFIED IS A MUST


Applicants must have education, training or experience demonstrating competence in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of housing business and/or public administration.
2. Experience interviewing and counseling individuals.
3. Knowledge of record-keeping and files management.
4. Experience interpreting and application of federal and state rules and regulations governing housing management programs.
5. Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, database management, client management systems.
6. Ability to communicate effectively.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Person must have ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Also must be able to write reports, and business correspondence. Must be able to effectively speak and present information and respond to questions from groups, clients, customers and the general public. Must be able to write letters on behalf of the agency and clients. Must be able to facilitate training and workshops.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Person must have a valid driver license. Must have or be able to be certified by Neighbor Works or other certifying entities. Must obtain certification as a HUD-Certified Housing Counselor within 30 days of employment.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

May be required to lift up to 10 pounds


OFFICE EQUIPMENT:

Ability to operate a fax machine, calculator, copier and postage meter. Also must be proficient in operating a computer. Must know or be willing to learn how to use Fannie Mae’s Home Counselor on Line and any other software associated with housing counseling.

Person must be willing and capable to travel within and out of state.
